Yesterday, Democratic New York City Councilmember Mark D. Levine issued the following statement:
“The New York Young Republican Club is hosting a potential super-spreader event Thursday. In-person cocktail reception and sit-down dinner gala with Sarah Palin and James O’Keefe. This is a clear violation of the law. It’s dangerous, and it must be stopped.”
This was followed by another statement from Speaker of the New York City Council Corey Johnson today:
“Everyone should be adhering to public health guidelines right now, especially with regard to avoiding indoor gatherings. As described, this event seems incredibly reckless and irresponsible. Our office has alerted the appropriate authorities, so they are aware of this potential danger to the community.”
Our response is as follows:
“If Speaker Johnson and Councilmember Levine bothered to take the immaterial time required to read our prior statements, they would see that we have previously affirmed that we will abide by all requisite requirements. Our 108th Annual Gala will take place in full accordance with the law. Speaker Johnson, Councilmember Levine, and other leftist politicians despise the police, and we find it the height of irony that they are now asserting authority to have law enforcement interrupt law-abiding gatherings after calling for the police to be defunded. We are disappointed (though unsurprised) that these leftist members of the New York City Council feel compelled to issue such irresponsible and defamatory statements.”
