Tom Sullivan is exactly the caliber of leader this district demands. Raised in Brooklyn as the son of a retired NYPD detective, Sullivan spent 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, rising to the rank of Colonel while simultaneously building and managing family and independent businesses as a small business owner and financial services professional. He has led organizations through the country’s toughest moments, helping businesses and communities navigate the aftermath of 9/11, the 2007–2008 financial crisis, and the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. A Breezy Point resident, Sullivan is not a career politician parachuting into the district; he is a neighbor who has spent decades in uniform and in the community answering the call to serve.
Sullivan is running to succeed retiring Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato at a moment when families and small businesses across the Rockaways, Broad Channel, and Howard Beach are being pushed to the brink by rising state and property taxes and the failed policies of one-party Albany. He has made clear his priorities in the Assembly will be limited government, public safety, responsible spending, and investment in the infrastructure and core services, transportation, education, and public health, that this district has too often been made to do without.
