Foreign militaries funded by the United States must understand that they cannot act with impunity. At a bare minimum, they cannot bomb other allies or interests of the United States. Yet yesterday, the Kiev Regime in control of the Ukraine destroyed part of the Druzhba pipeline, cutting the sole crude oil supply to Hungary and Slovakia. Strictly speaking, this attack on the energy supply of two NATO allies could be sufficient to trigger an Article V declaration whereby the United States would be treaty-bound to defend the interests of our allies with lethal military force. With full trust in the wisdom and diplomatic acumen of President Donald J. Trump to bring this unwarranted assault to a peaceful resolution, we hope such an escalation will not occur.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán immediately wrote President Donald J. Trump to protest this reckless act of war by the US-funded Zelensky government. He pointed out that the Ukraine bombed this pipeline just days before the historic US-Russia peace summit in Alaska, demonstrating its role as a sabotage operation in more ways than one. President Trump replied with his characteristic King Sharpie that, “I do not like hearing this – I am very angry about it! Tell Slovakia[.] You are my great friend.” Volodymyr Zelensky must understand that he cannot win America’s friendship by bombing our allies. For a country, like the Ukraine, entirely dependent on the goodwill of the American People, he and his regime are taking every action possible to destroy their base of support. America must respond in kind.
In the Age of America First, the New York Young Republican Club recommends this unprovoked attack trigger a full re-consideration of American support for the Zelensky Regime. Attacking our NATO allies shows that the Ukraine refuses to respect our national interests. Zelensky must now concern himself with salvaging an honorable resolution for his people, not biting the hand that feeds him and America will not suffer a close ally being bombed with munitions it provides another government. For truth be told, Budapest is a lot closer to America’s national interest than Kiev, and Viktor Orbán is a far better friend to President Trump than Volodymyr “You Don’t Have the Cards” Zelensky. If Zelensky insists on provoking a conflict with NATO, he will soon find himself bereft of allies or friends. Let this be a warning.
