Habemus Papam! The New York Young Republican Club congratulates Pope Leo XIV on his historic appointment during the Year of Jubilee — a sacred time symbolizing renewal, forgiveness, and moral clarity. Pope Leo XIV is the first pontiff to grow up under the Stars and Stripes, in the United States of America. Born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, Illinois, Leo XIV was Prior General of the Augustinians for many years and was appointed a Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2023. His views, while moderate, reflect his deep sincerity in Jesus Christ and the Catholic tradition.
“We believe that the College of Cardinals, as they sat in the awe-inspiring Sistine Chapel, were guided by the Holy Spirit to choose the best man for the job,” said Ryan J. Quinn, Chairman of the Club’s Catholic Caucus. “We pray that Pope Leo XIV perseveres in the perennial challenge of bringing about the Kingdom of God to a fallen world.”
May the new Vicar of Christ fill his Office with holiness and faith. May he bring the Lord’s blessing to faithful Catholics across the globe and lead them in truth as Jesus did His disciples. As traditional values and religious freedoms are challenged by dark forces worldwide, the pope’s strong leadership is vital for a free and faithful people. We look forward to his steadfast defense of life, family, and religious liberty in the American tradition; to a reaffirmation of the religious principles that are the cornerstone of a strong and free society.
The New York Young Republican Club stands with the Church and the Vatican in its mission to uphold timeless truths and to offer a beacon of hope to the faithful in a rapidly changing cultural landscape. The Year of the Jubilee is a powerful reminder that the values of Christ, including renewal and repentance, are eternal and unchanging. Under Pope Leo XIV’s leadership, may the Spirit of the Lord be rejuvenated in His people, and the Catholic faith renewed as in days of old.
