The New York Young Republican Club condemns the heinous murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police Department Officer Derek Chauvin. We call for the immediate prosecution of both Chauvin and his fellow officers, who looked on and did nothing. Upholding the rule of law is paramount no matter who the perpetrator is. We hope prosecutors are wise in their efforts of seeking justice and do not fail to punish misconduct.
We also condemn the lawlessness, anarchy, destruction, and violence perpetrated in Minneapolis predominantly by far-left Marxist agitators. The rule of law must be respected, and order must be restored to the streets of Minneapolis.
It is shameful that the Democrat-run governments of Minnesota and Minneapolis lack the ability or resolve to restore order to their streets. We commend President Donald J Trump for making it clear he will step in if the do-nothing Democrats continue their inaction.
We also note that this situation could have been avoided if Senator Amy Klobuchar had prosecuted Officer Derek Chauvin for previous acts of misconduct while she served as Hennepin County prosecutor. Her failure has led directly to the crisis that our nation faces today.
Our prayers are with the family of George Floyd and all the people of Minneapolis as they suffer collectively during this period of unrest. We hope our country can heal such that senseless violence and unjust policing can be washed from our country.
