At this point, videos and photographs of pro-Palestine, if not pro-Hamas, “encampments” on college campuses have become nearly ubiquitous on social media. Just scroll on X or Instagram and, before long, you’ll find some impressively attended “social justice” demonstrations, with participants adorned in keffiyeh scarves, and wielding Palestine flags.
Columbia University, New York University, the Fashion Institute of Technology, and, as of Thursday, the City College of New York, have all been subject to these radical Left mobs of petulant, spoiled, and, most importantly, uninformed college students.
To be sure, this is not entirely a bottom-up, grassroots endeavor. Professional organizers and agitators are at the helm, often screaming asinine, “progressive” platitudes into megaphones.
What you’ll not see at these demonstrations, however, are American flags. Don’t be fooled: these students don’t just have a gripe with Israel; they have a gripe with the entire Western world and everything it stands for.
Leftists are never so narrow in scope. Years ago, social justice activists called for the removal of Confederate statues, with the justification that Confederates were racists and bigots that sought to maintain the institution of slavery in America. Foolishly, many well-meaning Americans went along, thinking that it would stop with Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. But, shortly thereafter, American patriots like Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln came tumbling down.
These students are not seeking higher-education; they are seeking the destruction of Christianity and the West, writ large. We ought to remember, though, that these Universities, which have abandoned the classic Western canon for post-modern, revisionist nonsense, are reaping what they have sowed. Let them deal with it.
In the meantime, we ought to channel this enthusiasm on the pro-American Right. Organization of the sort we are now seeing on college campuses is necessary to win in 2024 and beyond.
We have to fight.
But make no mistake. The left will tear itself apart all year over this issue, costing Joe Biden his second term in the process.
