The NYYRC was proud to donate $400 to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in honor of the heroes who selflessly gave their lives 21 years ago during the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001.
Stephen drove his truck to the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but it had already been closed for security purposes. Determined to carry out his duty, he strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back, and raced on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he gave up his life while saving others.
Born from the tragedy of 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation carries forward a legacy of courage and heroism. Built upon the mantra, “While we have time, LET US DO GOOD,” the Foundation supports our nation’s fallen and catastrophically injured first responders, military heroes, and their families.
On Sunday, September 25th, the NYYRC and others will be participating in The Tunnel to Towers 5k Run and Walk in Brooklyn, NY. Grab your running shoes and join us for one of the best-known 5k’s to honor the heroes of this country and New York. You can sign up here to join our team, or make a donation. We look forward to seeing you on the 25th at 9:30 A.M.
