Join the NYYRC for a lively conversation about the collapse of the middle in American politics.

Join the New York Young Republican Club for an evening with Paul Gottfried, renowned political theorist and historian, for a candid conversation on the collapse of the political middle and the myths that sustain it. In an era marked by ideological polarization and cultural realignment, long-standing assumptions about “moderate Democrats” and “natural Republicans” continue to shape elite discourse, even as they no longer reflect political reality.

This event will deconstruct these labels head-on, advancing the argument that there are no true “moderate Democrats,” nor are there “natural Republicans” who reliably vote for the left. Through historical context and contemporary analysis, the discussion will examine how these concepts emerged, why they persist, and how they function to obscure real ideological commitments and voter behavior. Gottfried will offer insights into the death of the “normie,” the erosion of the political center, and what this realignment means for coalition politics, party loyalty, and the future of American political life.

About Paul Gottfried:

Paul Gottfried is an influential American paleoconservative political philosopher, historian, and writer, known for his role as editor-in-chief of Chronicles: A Magazine of American Culture, his former professorship at Elizabethtown College, and his many books and articles on European thought and various political movements. A Yale Ph.D. and Guggenheim recipient, he’s a prominent political thinker, who advocates for traditional conservatism, criticizes neoconservatism, and coined the term “paleoconservative.” He voted for The Donald in three presidential elections and doesn’t regret those decisions.

Writers, submit your creative works! See your writings come to life in this monthly workshop series.

We appreciate all supporters of the arts. You do not need to submit works or be a reader to attend the workshop. BYOB and food you’d like to share, and hang with your Arts Caucus family!

The format: Each month, writers will submit 5-10 pages double-space cut of their play, screenplay, monologue, or novel, to arts@nyyrc.com. From the submission, a number of new works will be chosen. On the day of the workshop, actors, writers, and audience members alike, will join us at our clubhouse to help develop the works. The first half hour of the workshop will be the time for everyone to come and mingle, while the organizers and Arts Caucus leadership select willing participants from the attendees to read for the roles in that month’s selections. You don’t have to have acting experience to join in on the fun! After the roles have been assigned, there will be a brief period where actors can look over the lines, and speak with the writer with any questions they may have, as well as receive basic instruction from the writer on how they envision the role being performed. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the creative process. Then comes the performance! As these are informal readings with the intention of assisting the writer, there’s no need for stage, blocking, or props.

Submission Deadline: Friday, January 30th E.O.D.
