The New York Young Republican Club is proud to endorse Thomas Sullivan for New York State Assembly District 23.
Sullivan is a family man, thirty-year military veteran, successful businessman, brave community leader, and 9/11 hero, and he is well-equipped, with numerous qualifications and a plethora of experiences, to make the decisions needed to get the New York State Legislature back on track. Most importantly, Sullivan, a Queens native, has spent decades working directly with the people in his district to bring about change. He knows the people, he knows the district, and he knows what is needed to deliver a higher quality of life for everyone.
After working for his family’s restaurant business, Sullivan opened his own restaurant and managed its operations for many years, during which time he became well-acquainted with the struggles of small business owners in New York. Having this first-hand business experience will allow Sullivan to make substantial improvements, on the state level, for small business owners who have been deprioritized in virtually all of the state’s efforts to reinvigorate small business and restore the economy following the pandemic.
Sullivan has spent three decades working in the financial services field, supporting his clients through crises and major financial devastation. Albany is in desperate need of more financial expertise to navigate the state’s continuing mass exodus of New Yorkers, and Sullivan has just the right experience and mentality to help bring New York back.
Sullivan is a retired Colonel in the United States Army Reserves and served as the Deputy Commanding Officer at the 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command. He has previously commanded thousands of soldiers at the detachment, company, battalion, and brigade echelons during four deployments, three of which were combat tours in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan.
Sullivan has a Masters in Military Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College and an MBA from Mount Saint Mary’s University, where he taught as an assistant professor of military science for the ROTC Program.
As a former member of the Board of Directors of the Breezy Point Cooperative, Sullivan worked with federal, state, and city officials, as well as non-profits and emergency responders to lead the rebuilding and recovery of his community following Hurricane Sandy. Sullivan’s extensive community service does not stop there. In 2011, Sullivan received the Soldier’s Medal, the Army’s highest honor for a noncombatant situation. He received this award because on September 11th, 2001, Sullivan was working at the World Trade Center when disaster struck, and he immediately proceeded to help his coworkers in the South Tower escape. That sort of bravery and fearlessness is exactly what New York State needs from its leadership, now more than ever.
The New York Young Republican Club believes Sullivan will be a strong leader in the New York State Legislature and encourages all registered voters of Assembly District 23 to support Sullivan in November 2024!
