The New York Young Republican Club is proud to endorse Lester Chang for New York State Assemblyman for District 49.
Born to Chinese immigrant parents in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Chang worked to live the American Dream. Chang graduated from high school and began studying at Brooklyn College to pursue a career in banking and finance. After gaining a master’s degree in International Transportation from SUNY Maritime College, Chang forged a career in logistics. This allowed him to travel extensively in Asia and America. In addition to his work in private business, Chang served in the U.S. Naval reserves and was moved to Washington, DC to work in Homeland Security post-9/11. Chang’s last rank was Chief Warrant Officer (CWO3) after being deployed as a military analyst to Bagram Air Force base in Afghanistan. In more recent times, Chang remains a member of the New York State Naval Militia, and helped to coordinate the New York City Covid-19 response. Chang can be credited for converting the Jacob Javis Convention center into a field hospital and helping to vaccinate several thousand New Yorkers with his logistics skill set.
Chang’s unique perspective from his experience in both the private and public sector make him the ideal candidate for supporting education and veterans in New York City. Chang promises to protect merit-based admissions to charter schools and will support parental rights for school choice for all New York families. The New York Young Republican Club strongly urges all New York voters in state assembly district 49 to vote for Lester Chang.
