The New York Young Republican Club is proud to endorse Edward Wehrheim for Smithtown Town Supervisor. Born and raised in Smithtown, Supervisor Wehrheim exemplifies public service to his nation and community. A veteran of two tours in Vietnam, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his service. The lessons he learned during his time in uniform shaped his lifelong dedication to our country. For nearly half a century, he has held a variety of roles which included being a Town Councilman member from 2003 to 2017, Director of Parks and Smithtown Town Supervisor since 2017.
As a Supervisor, Wehrheim’s mission has been to cut through the red tape of government bureaucracy and get things done. As Councilman; he was instrumental in the redevelopment of the Smith Haven Mall which helped inject over $1.1 million dollars in annual economic growth into Smithtown. Like Theodore Roosevelt before him, Supervisor Wehrheim recognizes the importance of environmental preservation. While holding office as Director of Parks, he planted hundreds of trees in Smithtown, and ensured his citizens had access to the cleanest drinking water in the state. During his tenure as a Supervisor, he instigated a renovation of over 80% of the town’s parks and beaches.
Like a true son of Smithtown, Supervisor Wehrheim maintains an open door policy with his constituents. He is always ready to discuss the issues affecting residents most. With the development of a Smithtown app, citizens are able to get up-to-date information about everything from traffic accidents, weather reports and school closures. Supervisor Wehrheim knows that a transparent government is an effective one and that means reducing government to be better equipped to meet the needs of the people.
There are no other Long Island Republicans who serve their communities as dutifully or faithfully as Supervisor Wehrheim. He accomplishes the impossible – getting things done on time and under budget. From renovating beaches into pristine vacation destinations, to ensuring the survival of the local shellfish population, to protecting Smithtown’s immaculate AAA bond rating, Supervisor Wehrheim delivers results. His service in the 2024 election as a member of President Donald J. Trump’s New York Leadership team, helped deliver the highest voter turnout per capita for the 47th President in the State of New York.
