Elections have consequences. President Donald J. Trump won a mandate from the American People on November 5, 2024, and so the Democrats must suffer. On Wednesday, Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) introduced the Somalia Immigration Moratorium Act (SIMA) to the House of Representatives, which would impose a 25-year ban on immigration from Somalia. This bold law would align the modern migration morass with the vision of the Founding Fathers. In 1776, 250 years ago, the seeds of American Exceptionalism were sown. America’s prosperity was created by the English tradition of civil liberties, the Protestant work ethic, and the Christian and Biblical values that underpin them. Somali migrants do not share these values; they have contributed nothing to our Nation.
The Founding Fathers banned or limited immigration from most non-European regions to protect the exceptionalism of their Nation. For 200 years since, Heritage Americans built a society–of settlers, not immigrants–made of Europeans, Christians, and compatible nations. In 1965, the Hart-Celler Immigration and Nationalities Act opened the floodgates to third-world migration. Sixty years later, the consequences of Hart-Celler bleed through every American street corner, bodega, and public service. A Marxist Islamist-Communist runs New York. Somali immigrants defrauded Minnesota of up to $9 billion. At least 30,000,000 people reside in the United States illegally. Through all this, the spirit of American Exceptionalism is bleeding.
The New York Young Republican Club calls on Speaker Mike Johnson to hold a vote on the Somalia Immigration Moratorium Act in the House of Representatives. Before he was elected, President Donald J. Trump promised to build a big, beautiful wall along the Southern Border. In his first term, he did so. Republicans must now build a second wall, a meshwork of interlocking laws, to protect the unique American Nation and the Anglo-Christian values of its founding. After 60 years of mass migration, the time has come to obliterate Hart-Celler and relegate it to the dustbin of history.
The Somalia Immigration Moratorium Act is the necessary first step to restore control and accountability to our immigration system.
