In France this morning, activist courts jailed National Rally leader Marine Le Pen and banned her from participating in upcoming presidential elections. Time and again, when the political Left realizes that they cannot win elections at the ballot box, they resort to lawfare and dirty tricks to attack strong conservative candidates. When President Donald J. Trump was favored to defeat Joe Biden handily, the Biden Regime and its Soros prosecutor allies like Alvin Bragg simply indicted him—on 86 baseless charges in four different courts in a failed effort to subvert the Will of the People. Three states tried to delete President Trump from their ballots. These same tactics are being dangerously applied all over the world to attack the ascendant Right.
It is the most fundamental principle of representative democracy that the People have the right to decide who represents them in government. The act of choosing elected leadership is firmly in the political sphere—not the legal one. The global left dangerously uses the judicial system for actions that are fundamentally political, silencing the Will of the People, eroding democratic norms and threatening the core principles of representative government.
Is France still a democracy if one of its most popular politicians is banned from the ballot? If the will of the people is ignored by political courts? As Vice President JD Vance noted in Munich, the greatest threat to Europe is its retreat from our shared democratic values. Open elections and free speech are sacrosanct non-negotiables. If France decides to exclude itself from the Free World, the New York Young Republican Club suggests that President Trump evaluate America’s options.
The years of tolerating leftist tyranny ended on Inauguration Day. Maybe it’s time the French People put Place de la Concorde back into use.
