Why Fox News Should Hire Keith Olbermann

After listening to the President Obama’s State of the Union, I first tuned to Fox News to see what the “FOX All-Stars” had say about the speech and it was great to hear the back and forth between 2 liberal-leaning commentators (Juan Williams & Kirsten Powers) and 2 conservative-leaning commentators (Brit Hume & Charles Krauthammer).  It was nice to have some balance in news coverage which so many in the dinosaur media refuse to implement.  However, neither set of commentators made strong points about the speech or took aggressive takes on if they thought President Obama had moved effectively to th center.

However, around quarter to 11,  Sean Hannity came on the air and of course he found President Obama’s speech very flat and didn’t think he was sincere in his attempt to persuade the American people that he was going to cut spending.  As Sean was going through his “ho-hum” opinion…I tuned over to MSNBC where Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell were giving there take on the speech.  And of course…it was a ho hum second-guessing of whether Republicans could even work with President Obama on his new “investment” proposals.

During this time, I was thinking how great it would be if one network featured strong liberal and conservative commentators speaking on the same show at same time.  Usually only the mainstream media applies this approach…but it often matches up 3 strong liberals with 1 weak conservative or 3 strong conservatives with  1 weak liberal.  To me this is not “fair and balanced.”

American media needs  to stop claiming that they are “fair” because they have both parties represented on their network.  Having Alan Colmes on Fox News and Joe Scarborough on MSNBC doesn’t make either network truly “fair.”  It is rather a sham of what news should be in this country.

Nobody in this country can trust supposed “objective” media in this country like ABC  News or the New York Times, because nobody is truly objective about political issues.  Since a majority of the mainstream media tilted liberal for most of the 20th century, it open the door to a revolution in AM radio…called conservative talk radio…led by Rush Limbaugh.  The programming received a following due to the fact that the American public didn’t trust that the mainstream media was giving them the facts straight.  Where Rush and talk radio thrives is in their doubt and parody of the mainstream media.  Most people agree with their sentiment that the media is not telling the “whole” truth and therefore they have built huge audiences that have challenged the power of the “Cronkite/NY Times” model of journalism.

Next, Fox News applied that “liberal leaning” approach to news by coming at from a “conservative” angle.  This drove liberals nuts, since it was another salvo into their overall control of information given to the American people.  As much as Fox has been lambasted by the left, all the insults have only helped them get stronger and now Fox regularly competes with CNN as the most trusted news source.

So with that in mind, I think its time for the media to try something different that will benefit all Americans.  How about just have all journalists admit they are biased.  Yes, have them come out and say that they are liberal-leaning or conservative leaning.  Then, each network should hire 50% liberal commentators and 50% conservative commentators.  This truly would be “fair & balanced” news…since both perspectives would represented in the news.  It would help Americans become better informed about politics and make wiser decisions about who they elect as their leaders.  I also think that it would make more people follow the news and find it useful to follow.

Now, that brings me to the main point of my blog post.  It is time for Fox News to put away its “conservative” only approach to major commentators and hire Keith Olbermann.  Yes, that’s right.  The same guy who gained fame or notoriety (depending on your political persuasion) going after George W. Bush so viciously during his second term in the oval office.  Thought I disagree with nearly everything that Keith Olberman says, it was nice to know that their was someone in the “liberal” media that wasn’t afraid to say that was a liberal.  He wasn’t afraid to say what he believed in.  That is what makes our democracy truly strong.  His opinions were so forthright that caused Americans to pay attention to him and not be lulled to sleep by a mainstream media who doesn’t do their job.

The best news reporting today doesn’t come from the New York Times or the Washington Post…but rather from talkers and bloggers on both sides of the political divide.  Whether it be Breitbart or Think Progress…blogs are the ones who truly break news and bring important issues to the forefront of American voters.  Commentators like Olbermann and Rush rely on these news sources to report to the American people the truth about what is going on in America…even if they just report news that is favorable to their side.

This is why a news outfit like Fox…needs to hire strong commentators from both sides of the aisle in order to be the “New York Times” of the 21st century.  The first news outlet who lets go of partisanship in favor of  strong opinions will be the most successful.  This is why Fox News and MSNBC regularly beat  CNN in the ratings.  CNN’s model for news is dead.  Fox News and MSNBC lead the news race now and are the most influential outlets in the country.  So, in order for Fox News to make CNN and MSNBC irrelevant…as well as the New York Times, Washington Post, and Networks News…it must venture outside of its “conservative” comfort zone…and hire Keith Olbermann.  Even Republicans know that sometime Republicans are the “Worst People in the World”.  That is the type of honesty that all Americans need.

Beautiful Words By Our President

Like many Republicans, I often have my disagreements with President Obama over his beliefs, policies, and actions on how to move America forward. However, tonight in front of thousands in Tucson, Arizona, he did a wonderful job of inspiring all Americans (red states & blue states) to live up to their higher ideal.

While much of the media has tried to make this terrible tragedy in Tucson about politics and rhetoric…the president touched the essence of what it means to be an American.  To be an American is to strive towards greatness and the higher ideals of our republic.  We must try to live in a country that lives up to the vision seen in the eyes of the innocent.  Please enjoy and reflect on the acute rhetoric by President Obama at the end of his speech tonight in Tucson.  No matter our party or ideology his words truly reflect the American spirit and how it must shine brightly in the wake of this tragedy.

I believe we can be better. Those who died here, those who saved lives here – they help me believe. We may not be able to stop all evil in the world, but I know that how we treat one another is entirely up to us. I believe that for all our imperfections, we are full of decency and goodness, and that the forces that divide us are not as strong as those that unite us.

That’s what I believe, in part because that’s what a child like Christina Taylor Green believed. Imagine: here was a young girl who was just becoming aware of our democracy; just beginning to understand the obligations of citizenship; just starting to glimpse the fact that someday she too might play a part in shaping her nation’s future. She had been elected to her student council; she saw public service as something exciting, something hopeful. She was off to meet her congresswoman, someone she was sure was good and important and might be a role model. She saw all this through the eyes of a child, undimmed by the cynicism or vitriol that we adults all too often just take for granted.

I want us to live up to her expectations. I want our democracy to be as good as she imagined it. All of us – we should do everything we can to make sure this country lives up to our children’s expectations.

Christina was given to us on September 11th, 2001, one of 50 babies born that day to be pictured in a book called “Faces of Hope.” On either side of her photo in that book were simple wishes for a child’s life. “I hope you help those in need,” read one. “I hope you know all of the words to the National Anthem and sing it with your hand over your heart. I hope you jump in rain puddles.”

If there are rain puddles in heaven, Christina is jumping in them today. And here on Earth, we place our hands over our hearts, and commit ourselves as Americans to forging a country that is forever worthy of her gentle, happy spirit.

May God bless and keep those we’ve lost in restful and eternal peace. May He love and watch over the survivors. And may He bless the United States of America.

Political Points Has No Part In Tragedy

It is extremely reprehensible and irresponsible for the mainstream media to try to pin the shooting of Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords (D-Arizona) and the killing of 6 others by deranged madman Jared Lee Loughner on former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and the Tea Party.  They are saying the map of targets placed over 20 vulnerable Democrats in the House for the 2010 Election that was posted on her Facebook page last June is related to the actions taken by Loughner yesterday afternoon.  Though the map produced by Sarah Palin showed extremely poor judgment and has no place in our politics, it is not related to Mr. Loughner and his actions at all.  You can even say that the former Governor posting such an item on her Facebook page could  have consequences on her future political career, but you can’t possibly connect it with the actions of a deranged shooter at this time.

I agree that vitriol and hate being spewed out by both sides of the aisle needs to be addressed, the mainstream media wants to ignore the fact that leftist websites like the Daily Kos and Democratic Underground have been producing hate-filled rantings more many years.  Also, they’d like to forget the way that the left tried to tied the foreign policy of George W. Bush to Adolph Hitler throughout his presidency.  Similar rhetoric has been seen on the right when referring to President Obama as a socialist.  This shooting should put both  political parties on notice that the rhetoric needs to change and become more civilized.  Terms of violence should be taken out of political rhetoric as they nothing more than inflame our differences as Americans, rather than unite us.  President Obama must take the lead at this fragile moment in our republic and lead for all Americans.  He must call out any extreme language in our politics on both sides and focus our attention on solving the many problems that face our nation.

Now for Mr. Loughner.  If f look into his background it is clear that the shooter is a mentally unstable 22 year old who doesn’t have any distinct political ideology.  From reading the postings that the Laughner made on YouTube and MySpace, it appears that he is an anti-government anarchist.  He does not believe in God, believes that Gold/Silver is the only true currency, and believes that the government has mind control capacities over its citizens with grammar.  The ramblings are quite incoherent and seem to indicate a deranged loner, rather than a political ideologue as the left and mainstream media has tried to tie him to.  Also, people who know Loughner said that he was loner who kept to himself and according to one source had “extreme left wing” views.  His favorite books include Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto, which we can assume wouldn’t be found on any bookshelves of members of the Tea Party.  Also, he is shown burning an American flag in a YouTube video and denouncing the Constitution as “treasonous laws”, which is hardly “conservative” rhetoric.  Clearly, Jared Loughner is an anarchist with views that don’t fit on the left/right political spectrum.

According to a Department of Homeland Security memo, Loughner may have had ties to a group called American Renaissance, who is anti-semitic and may have some anti-immigration views.  This is perhaps why he made Congresswoman Giffords the target of his attack, but his motive cannot be confirmed at this time.  It also wouldn’t explain why he decided to shoot the rest of the crowd that assembled to meet the Congresswoman, including a nine-year old girl who was one 6 fatalities.  To kill 6 people and look to reload you gun after the first magazine went empty, shows the signs of a mentally unstable and perhaps insane person, not a person drive by a distinct political philosophy.

At this time, our country must pray from Congresswoman Giffords recovery. Violence against political leaders only serves to weaken our democracy.  This should be a time that either side doesn’t look to score political points.  We must acknowledge this a tragedy and look at ways to limit event in the future. One of the consequences of living in a free society is that there is always the chance for lone wolf to create violence.  We need to do a better job of identifying potentially unstable individuals and get them help before they can cause harm to others.

Why Campaigning in NYC Will Help Us Take Back Congress

New York City…the city known for the Yankees, great pizza, and liberalism.  Yes…conservatism tends to me as unpopular as crowded subway in the summer.  But this year…as famous Greenwich Village performer Bob Dylan once said…”The Times They Are A Changin.”  Being out on the streets campaigning, you can tell that New Yorkers are looking for something different than the same old liberal politicians that are currently installed in Albany and Washington.  They are open to Republicans on the ballot this year…but they will vote the same old same old…if we don’t give them a reason to “Fill in the Dots” (new voting system…no more lever) for the GOP.  It is our job as activists to encourage those on the fence to take the leap and show them that we have faith in this year’s crop of Republicans.  We all believe that Republicans, if they were elected to office, would make a positive difference for the residents of New York City and New York State.   We can no longer afford taxes on everything from soda to ipods to anything else that Dems can get their hands on.  Middle class families around New York City are sick and tired with the status quo and want to vote for us.  But they want to see that we can win.

This is why we got to work like hell for the next month to get our conservative, small government message out to as many New York City voters as we can.  People are receptive to our message and happy to have a choice of something different this year.  In order to get our message out, each New York City campaign needs volunteers.  An hour, a day, a week, or whatever you want to give will help us win seats in this city and statewide.  Especially statewide.  New York City will be a challenging but doable.  However, any volunteer work you do in this city will help statewide races immensely.  Because NYC is known as a very liberal city, not many statewide candidates will spend a lot of time campaigning here.  They will need help from activists like us in order to increase votes for the GOP within Manhattan and the other 4 boroughs.  Let’s say our hard work increases GOP votes citywide by 10%.

Then we can very well be the difference in making Carl Paladino the next Governor… Harry Wilson the next comptroller and Dan Donovan the next Attorney General.    Paladino is within 6 points of Cuomo according to the latest Quinnipiac poll and now will receive support from most Rick Lazio supporters, since he has stepped down as a candidate on the Conservative line.  Still not convinced that we could be the difference in NYC?

How about we look at the current polls in other states.  Right now the U.S. Senate, according to Real Clear Politics, has the Democrats winning 50 seats and the Republicans winning 46 seats…with 4 tossup seats.  Of those 4 seats…Ken Buck (R) is defeating incumbent Michael Bennet (D) by 5 points for the Colorado Senate seat according to CNN/Time Opinion Research poll.  Also…Mark Kirk (R) is leading Alexi Giannoulias (D) by 3 points according to the latest Rasmussen poll.  So that makes it 50-48 Democrats in the Senate.  Also…in Nevada, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and Sharon Angle are tied in the latest Las Vegas Review Journal/ Mason-Dixon poll.  So, if Sharon Angle ekes out that race, then its 50-49 in the Senate.   The last tossup seat is in West Virginia, show John Raese (R) defeating Joe Manchin (D) by 3 points in the latest Public Policy Polling poll.  So, if Raese wins that race…the Senate is 5o-50.  Since the Democrats control the Executive Branch, Vice President Joe Biden becomes the tie breaker vote and gives control of the Senate to the Democrats.

Real Clear Politics has the New York Senate seat leaning towards  incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand.  However, if Joe DioGuardi pulls off the upset…the GOP wins the Senate.  If we win the House (as expected…but TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED!) and the Senate…then we will have control of Congress and the purse strings of government.  President Obama will HAVE TO WORK WITH REPUBLICANS…to get anything done.  This will curb his radicalism and allow the country to return to good, sound government policies.  New York City could be the difference in us winning the Senate or not.  So, anyone who tells you that you live in New York City and it doesn’t matter if you volunteer and vote…DON’T KNOW ANYTHING.   If you follow my plea and help out a local campaign…you will help the GOP take back Congress.  It doesn’t matter what campaign you work for in New York State…just get out and volunteer.  If you put a few days of your life into a campaign, then WE WILL TAKE BACK CONGRESS and you will have TAKEN BACK YOUR COUNTRY!!!

Now is the time the act.  This is our time to shine New York City.  We have built the worlds tallest buildings and its greatest financial institutions.  We can win this election as well for the GOP.  Nothing is impossible.  No one thought Scott Brown could win the “Ted Kennedy seat” and he won it by five points.  2010 is the year for the GOP to take back the Northeast and show we are viable party in every county in this country. Especially New York County.  I hope to see you out volunteering and helping the GOP win a big election this year.

NOW LETS GO OUT AND WIN THIS THING!!!!  Help a New York City candidate below by sending them a check or giving them your time.

Ryan Brumberg (14th Congressional District)

Susan Kone (8th Congressional District)

Michel Faulkner (15th Congressional District)

Pledge to America: Our Gameplan For Victory in 2010 and Beyond

Read the “Pledge to America” that the House GOP just released today.  Let’s make it our GAMEPLAN as we hit the streets of New York City and encourage voters to support Republican candidates in November.  Let’s get on message and tell voters how the GOP will repeal Obamacare and limit government spending.  As I mentioned in my previous post, we have several winnable races.  Lets make New York City the place where we get GOP candidates over the hump statewide.  It’s time to make our case to New Yorkers and be advocates for conservative ideas.  Don’t be afraid of liberals and the nasty things they might say to us while we canvas.  The nastier they get, the more afraid they are that we are going to take this city.  Be Brave ans Strong.  It’s time for Republicans in New York City to stop being afraid to show that they are conservative.  I am sick and tired of liberals belittling us and more tired of Republicans wallowing in a corner.  Let’s be bold and challenge them to defend Obama, Pelosi/Reid, and the failed policies of the past 2 years.  Democrats have nothing to run in 2010 after bringing disfunction to Albany and Washington D.C.  If a liberal wants to show us “who’s boss”…I recommend that you just laugh at them and move on.  Liberals trying to make us back down are losers…and we should treat them as such…by ignoring them.  Any people who have nothing better to do than rail on Republicans  who are campaigning and acting on their first amendment rights are pathetic…and don’t deserve our attention.  Let’s start campaigning hard for GOP candidates and SHOCK THE COUNTRY!

New York GOP: IT’S TIME TO FOR UNITY

New York races for Governor and Congress went through tough, hard fought primaries and now its the time for us to come together and support the victors.

Like many of you, some of my preferred candidates won and some of them lost, but that is all in the past now.  What’s most important is that we take back Albany and Washington D.C. from the Democrats and return limited government to the American people.  That is the reason why we have joined the GOP and are so active in the party.  We remember how it felt on Election Night 2008, when we saw Obama’s victory speech in Hyde Park.  It was so depressing to know that our party had suffered such a large defeat,  4 years after George W. Bush won reelection by an impressive margin.

Since the first few months of the Obama presidency, we have all discussed how he and Congressional Democrats were passing terrible legislation for the American people, that restricted individual liberty (Obamacare) and didn’t provide economic growth (the Stimulus).  We have  had to wait till now  to change course and bring common sense conservative leaders to Washington D.C.  In Albany, we have watched an inept Governor try to tax everything he possibly could and a budget be passed 4 months too late by the State Legislature.  These events and many others have depressed us and many New York City voters and they are seeking alternatives to Democratic leadership.

With this said, it is not the time to reflect on wounds from tough primary fights, but rather, to unite around our candidates and take back our state and our country.   WE CAN WIN THIS YEAR!!!  But only if we work together.  The latest  Quinnipiac poll has Carl Paladino ONLY DOWN 6 POINTS to Andrew Cuomo.  THIS RACE IS WINNABLE!  Cuomo is only up 2-1 in New York City…that means that 33% of voters are pulling the lever for “crazy, unelectable” Paladino in New York City…one of the  most liberal cities in America.  In the latest Survey USA Poll, Joe DioGuardi is ONLY DOWN 1 POINT to Kirsten Gillibrand.  THIS RACE IS WINNABLE! In order to help Paladino become the next Governor of New York and put DioGuardi in the Senate, we must get out the New York City vote and over deliver the GOP for them.  That is our job as New York City GOP activists.  That’s what being a member of a political club means.  It means being an activist and getting GOP candidates elected.  Period.  It means helping Saul Farber win the 26th State Senate District.  It means helping Ryan Brumberg defeat Carolyn McCarthy in the 14th Congressional District, who has been in office since 1993 and has become a parrot for Nancy Pelosi.  It means supporting Paul Niehaus in the 73rd State Assembly District.  It means helping Susan Kone defeat Jerry Nadler in the 8th Congressional District.  It means helping Michel Faulkner upset Charles Rangel and kick out a crooked congressman out of office.

We know that the Democrats in New York City have more money and resources than we do for this election…but they don’t have more heart, desire, or will to win.  Look at Bill Thompson last year.  He was outspent more than 20-1 by Mike Bloomberg and only lost by 4 points.  And he wasn’t even a great candidate.  But what he had was committed grassroots volunteers and a voter base who despised Bloomberg.

The GOP has a similar scenario this year.  A good amount of Independents and Democrats in NYC are fed up with Democrats in Albany and Washington D.C.  They are looking for an alternative…but if we don’t make it clear to them that we  have one…then they will just vote for Democrats.  These voters can turn to the GOP this year, but they need to see passion and energy from us…the GOP activists.

We have just 40 days to election days, so now is the time to focus on local races and get involved in a campaign of your choice.  Being a Republican simply means believing in the power of the individual.  I believe in all of you and the power of each and every New York City Republican.  I believe we can reach individual voters and convince them that our party stands with their values.  I believe that individuals joining hands and sending a message to our leaders is more powerful than our leaders sending a message to individuals.

GET INVOLVED IN A CAMPAIGN TODAY! A GRATEFUL STATE AND NATION THANKS YOU!
