9/11: Never Forget…? Obama Already Has

Truly remembering 9/11 would damage Obama

On my walk home from work today, I noticed an older man wearing a t-shirt that read, “9/11: Never Forget.”  Having spent the day on this 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks in an office very much in the middle of terrorist target number one, Times Square, it was easy to remember.  Moreover, several of my colleagues were working in the World Trade Center that fateful day, and the company observed a respectful moment of silence.  The man sitting next to me, one of the many caught in that noxious cloud of dust while walking, terrified, uptown, admitted he was suffering from PTSD.  For those intimately entangled in the day’s events, in New York, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania and their families, to forget is impossible.  Yet how many others remember the lessons of 9/11?  I dare say our President chooses to forget them.

Last night, President Obama delivered a contradictory, rambling, political speech on Syria that tugged at emotions and, surprise, shifted blame at Congressional Republicans.  Without hard evidence, Obama made the case that America should bomb Syria and the legitimate Assad regime for allegedly using chemical weapons – a claim that is disputed by Assad and Vladimir Putin.  Obama assured the public, who is overwhelming against American involvement, that such an attack would deter Assad from using these weapons again.  Yes, if in fact Assad is culpable, perhaps a punishment at the hands of the American Navy and Air Force would serve to deter.

But they would also do something else: give a huge advantage to the totalitarian Islamist rebels who are trying to overthrow the secular dictator and install a Muslim Brotherhood government and all that comes along with it.  What are some of those things?  Public stonings for adultery, forced covering of women, executions for religious conversion (i.e., apostasy), the genocide of Christians and Jews (or at minimum, an apartheid tax), a rejection of modern science, a stifling of the human spirit and suffocating of creativity, and a burgeoning of the  narcotics trade.  Imagine installing the Taliban in Syria; after all, they’re fighting alongside the rebels, too.

To remember 9/11 is to remember who and what inspired it.  Chiefly, it was Ayman al-Zawahiri and the Muslim Brotherhood.  While Osama bin Laden was the charismatic leader of al Qaeda, before he met Zawahiri, who would become his spiritual mentor, bin Laden was not anti-American.  Osama’s father, Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden, a Yemeni, had risen to the top of Saudi social circles and was personal friends with the King.  The family was (and still is) so respected that George H.W. Bush served on the Board of the Carlyle Group, a company with close ties to the family.  This is not meant to be conspiratorial – on the contrary, it shows just how mainstream and acceptable a family raised Osama.  When he went to fight the Soviets, he was acting with support of the Saudi and American governments.  It was Zawahiri, a student of the ideological father of the Muslim Brotherhood, Sayyid Qutb, who convinced bin Laden to turn his terror network’s fury on America.

Qutb, an Egyptian like Zawahiri, had lived in post-war America, in New York, Washington D.C., and in Greeley, Colorado.  Disgusted with materialism and what he perceived as loose sexuality, Qutb turned on the “white man.”  Elevating his religious hatred to racial hatred (much like a Brotherhood hero, Adolf Hitler), Qutb declared war on them, writing: “The white man in Europe or America is our number-one enemy… The white man crushes us underfoot while we teach our children about his civilization, his universal principles and noble objectives…. Let us instead plant the seeds of hatred, disgust, and revenge in the souls of these children. Let us teach these children from the time their nails are soft that the white man is the enemy of humanity, and that they should destroy him at the first opportunity.” There is detailed recollection of bin Laden’s transformation under Zawahiri in Lawrence Wright’s The Looming Tower.  Qutb’s seminal work Milestones, you might call it the Koran of the Brotherhood, is available here.

Following the attacks of September 11, when American was weeping for their dead, the Muslim Brotherhood was celebrating.  The Brotherhood’s official journal, Al-Ikhwan Al-Muslimun, called Osama bin Laden “a hero in the full sense of the word” and encouraged his followers to “eradicate America.”  Hamas, essentially a franchise of the Brotherhood, in their weekly Al-Risala wrote “Allah has answered our prayers.”  (Dolin and Rothman.  Icon of Evil.  Random House.)  They had seduced Osama bin Laden, used his prestige and legend in the Arab world, and humbled America.  Break out the champagne opium!

Since the “Arab Spring” began, Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya have fallen into Brotherhood hands.  Following Morsi’s appalling purge of Christians and mismanagement of the economy, a popular referendum has removed him from power.  The Egyptian military appears determined to smash the Brothers like Mubarak did following Sadat’s assassination.  Yet with the exception of Tunisia, Obama was instrumental installing them into power.  It was Obama who abandoned Mubarak, a reliable American and Israeli ally.  It was Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who bombed Gaddafi and his forces, ultimately leading to his death following rape with a bayonet.  It is Obama who is, today, arming the Syrian rebels, who are swarming with foreign jihadis, Muslim Brothers, and al Qaeda.  It is Obama who stands steadfastly with his friend and Muslim Brother, Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, even as he turns his police on protesters.  It is Obama who apparently gets more foreign policy advice from the hornet’s nest called Qatar, the patron of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, than his Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Remembering 9/11, we should keep in mind that President Obama is supporting, funding, arming, and handing over entire states and peoples to the Muslim Brotherhood, the ideological architects of modern jihad.  By virtue of his office and the respect it (normally) commands, he has done more to set back secular governance in the Middle East than any singular person could have over the last three years.  The same people who consider America their number one enemy, who see no distinction between men, women, or child, nor between soldier and civilian, would be the beneficiaries of any American air strike against Bashar al-Assad.  What would blossom in the Middle East if Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, and Syria all went Brotherhood?  Undoubtedly a modern Nazi state, awash in narcotics profits, that ethnically cleansed their lands of Christians and Jews, while leveraging terrorism for profit.

A strong majority of Americans oppose intervention Syria on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood, al Qaeda, and the other Islamists that form the core of the opposition.  Clearly, ordinary citizens possess a realistic view of what inspired bin Laden and his co-jihadis to commit mass murder.  Mr. President, shame on you.
