QE2 and Japan
Posted by: | CommentsLately, the debate among those who follow the capital markets is whether the Federal Reserve will engage in further asset purchases with new (read: printed) money. This process is called “quantitative easing” (“QE” for short). The “easing” refers to the effect on the interest rate, i.e. the cost of borrowing money. Because the Federal Reserve has already purchased assets vis-a-vis this method back in 2008, this round is being dubbed QE2. There are countless... Read More→
Hustle as a Campaign Strategy
Posted by: | CommentsWith a mere 33 days remaining until Election Day, now is the time to get engaged. The most important election of our lifetime means that you should be out volunteering for a candidate – phone banking, writing letters, street canvassing, helping to organize, raising funds, etc. Here are some local campaigns. Like all other forms of competition, elections demand strategic, operational, and tactical thinking to outmaneuver and defeat the enemy. Business literature abounds with minds like... Read More→
Shadow Government Undaunted by Elections
Posted by: | CommentsThe economy remains flatter than a seltzer bottle in the morning, flanked by whiskey and gin, left uncapped by boisterous partiers the night before. Chairman Bernanke of the Federal Reserve, “Helicopter Ben” for short, remains stubbornly sure that this is due to a lack of liquidity. (Bear in mind that banks hold over $1 trillion in excess reserves.) In an effort to boost lending, which has plummeted despite aggressive inflation and political pressure from Congress and the White... Read More→

A Republican Seachange in NYC
Posted by: | CommentsFor the past few months, I have taken time out of my life outside work to volunteer for Ryan Brumberg, who is running for Congress in NY’s 14th District. The district boundaries include the Upper East Side, Midtown East, the Lower East Side, and western Queens (including Astoria and Long Island City). At about 30% registered Republican, it is the most favorable district in Manhattan for the GOP. In fact, up until the election of Carolyn Maloney in 1992, the district was solidly Republican. My... Obamacare Will Destroy Health Innovation
Posted by: | CommentsHow do we know this? Look across the pond! From GenomeWeb: UK government officials are warning that cuts to the government’s science budget will lead to a “brain drain” of researchers leaving the country, says the Guardian‘s Alok Jha. In a letter to science minister David Willetts, chairman of the House of Lords science and technology committee Lord John Krebs says several labs have already lost researchers to institutions in other countries, and that further cuts to... Election 2010 – Get Involved! (Before it’s too late!)
Posted by: | CommentsI am an avid follower of the news, particularly financial and economic news. My sources are the internet and a modest amount of talk radio. I read anything from the HuffPo to Mises.org and everything mainstream in between. Let me tell you: the consensus is that this is a “big election.” An understatement, to be sure, but we’re talking mass opinion (the same mass opinion that elected Barack Obama and cannot use the word “depression” to describe our economy). Conservative... Read More→
The (Other) Buckley Rule
Posted by: | CommentsWith so many of the Republican pundits throwing around William F. Buckley’s dictum that they should support the most conservative, electable candidate, implying that recent Tea Party victories are impractical for the party and the movement, take a look at this: Senator James Buckley, brother of WFB, declares America on the verge… I believe that the country we love and its institutions are now in critical danger. I believe the next very few years will tell whether we succeed in restoring... Read More→
25 Minutes of Brilliance
Posted by: | CommentsTired of Republican Party elements such as Karl Rove destroying our Senate candidates? Can’t seem to say enough bad about Christine O’Donnell, can he? How about the hatred of the normal citizens who are fighting for their rights and speaking out against reckless spending policies? Is Tea Party bashing making you sick? Mark Levin delivers an outstanding monologue against the likes of Rove, Charles Krauthammer, and the Weekly Standard for playing politics over principle. http://marklevinshow.com/sectional.asp?id=32930# This... Constitution Day
Posted by: | CommentsToday is Constitution Day. It marks the 223rd anniversary of the Constitution of the United States of America – the document which has made America different from all other countries in the world and secured our unique freedoms under law. In other news, today marks the 605th day of Obama trashing the Constitution. Read More →
