The Things I realized from the oil spill
Posted by: | Comments1. We are not as technologically advanced as I thought. 2. It is indeed a shame to see so much oil being wasted and not used to heat our homes or drive our cars. 3. Good thing the current government had not taken over the oil industry and halted capitalism and business, because like Obama himself stated, the government just does not have the technology that BP does. 4. I have to agree with Hayward that Americans are more likely to file lawsuits, whether “bogus” or genuine. 5. The isle... Read More→
The Art of Reporting
Posted by: | CommentsThere have been some enthused debates from conservatives about the liberal media coverage of the NYC Times Square bomber–his life, times, and the analysis of what lead him to attempt such a horrid thing. The media’s reporting of this I do not find atypical at all. It is a story…and a perfect opportunity to infuse art into reporting and journalism. A good story must tug at the emotions somehow. That is what ultimately sells. To expect the media to put aside artistic flavors and focus... Read More→
Money and Happiness
Posted by: | CommentsBernanke recently reiterated what ages of research have apparently shown–that yes money does not necessarily lead to more happiness. Of course nothing in itself leads to happiness, it’s what you do with it that matters. And some people sadly just don’t know how to spend wisely. Read More →
It might be time to cash in that favor, Unions.
Posted by: | CommentsWatching the NYS budget fiasco and Gov Patterson’s all out war against the Unions…I daresay it is about time the Unions looked to Washington and their Knight in Shining Armor to get them out this mess. I’m sure they never imagined that they would be the ones being screwed with a democratic president and a democratic congress that they so enthusiastically endorsed. The Unions are being fed by all the workers of the state, so they owe it to them to make sure all the jobs are saved,... Read More→
If you want something done right…
Posted by: | Comments…you have to do it yourself. Is that the message Arizona has sent to the federal government with this new law attempting to eliminate illegal immigration? Despite all the things the government is so feverishly working on and trying to change, there seems a growing number of folks/states that still feel the need to take matters into their own hands. But as I think on this I cannot help but digress to the wonder of what can be done about people who are legally in this country but yet are not... Read More→
The sanctity of contracts
Posted by: | CommentsI heard again today of the whole wall street bonus mess and most everybody arguing that CEOs, etc should not be given the massive monetary bonuses promised in their contracts. My take on this has been the same from day one: employees are entitled to whatever is promised in their contracts. If the employer feels the employee has done poor quality work, then there should be simple and guaranteed measures that can be taken to terminate the employees or not renew their contract again. As someone who... Read More→
How Obama should? play the race card
Posted by: | CommentsAndrew Samuels, a Jungian psychoanalyst and professor, and a politically intellectual bigwig in some circles (per Wikipedia) has a provocative video post on his website (www.andrewsamuels.com ‘Is Barack Obama a good-enough leader). This was posted in June 2009 so my apologies if this stuff was posted or discussed here before. Samuels tells us he is not at all surprised by the recent disappointment in Obama and his failure to maintain the wave of messianic approval that American voters seemingly... Read More→
What is the opposition to Obama’s reforms?
Posted by: | CommentsA colleague living in Europe recently asked me why there are such “vehement” oppositions from some to Obama’s reforms. My colleague then went on to give me a lecture about the responsibility of government to provide for its citizens, the responsibility of those who are fortunate to those who are less fortunate. After listening to his version of the liberal worldview, I told him yes he was right and just in being concerned about those who as he stated cannot provide for themselves and their... Read More→
ObamaTransit
Posted by: | CommentsThe White House is proposing to take over Mass Transit in all major cities. Will this mean there will be no more random searches of backpacks and large containers? I shall have to let this news sink in before I comment any further… Read More →
sexual desire, evolution, and the inner city
Posted by: | CommentsI attended a recent lecture entitled the ‘evolution of human sexual desire’, by Lawrence Josephs, Ph.D., professor at the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies of Adelphi University. Part of the talk discussed the sexual life of the bonobo chimps, the closest relatives of humans on the evolutionary tree, and why there are similarities and differences in the two species. Bonobos and humans engage in similar sexual behaviors and play, but the Bonobos and chimpanzees in general are... Read More→
