Election 2010 – Get Involved! (Before it’s too late!)
ByI am an avid follower of the news, particularly financial and economic news. My sources are the internet and a modest amount of talk radio. I read anything from the HuffPo to Mises.org and everything mainstream in between. Let me tell you: the consensus is that this is a “big election.” An understatement, to be sure, but we’re talking mass opinion (the same mass opinion that elected Barack Obama and cannot use the word “depression” to describe our economy).
Conservative opinion is more dire. Consider Thomas Sowell, the famed economist and political philosopher who has just released a new collection of writings entitled Dismantling America. He has said, repeatedly, that if we (i.e. conservatives) lose this election there may be no turning back, ever. Statism and its insouciance with respect to the national debt will consume our country and consign the citizens to being wards of the state. You will exist for the government and at the pleasure of the government. Now you understand Obamacare?
Mark Levin, former Reagan official, constitutional lawyer, author, turned talk radio host, has been in the conservative movement and politics in general for over 40 years. To anyone listening, he pleads that this is the biggest election of his lifetime. To lose is to surrender the country. James Buckley, brother of William F. Buckley, has said as much, too.
If you’re a Republican who plans on just voting this November it’s not enough. You have a duty to get involved with candidates for the sake of your country. We are not dealing with a run-of-the-mill Democrat administration. These people know no bounds and are completely unencumbered by their rulebook – the Constitution. Daily they tighten the noose on the people.
We have 41 days until Election Day. As Republicans in NYC, you’re very special commodities. There are millions of disinterested New Yorkers who would vote Republican if only they’d only meet the right ambassador. Be that ambassador. Tell them what you stand for and why! That’s your job this campaign season. Build the movement and get out the votes!
