Tea Party Supporters at 24%
ByOf the nation, that is. That’s right – the spontaneous grassroots protest movement now includes 1/4 people. A little hard to label one-quarter of the population racist anti-government extremists, isn’t it?
As the movement grows, President Obama continues his arrogant and insulting dismissal of all political opponents. In the Christian Science Monitor:
…President Obama has taken on tea party protesters, saying he’s “amused” by their failure to see that the average American’s tax burden has lessened under his stewardship.
“You would think they’d be saying thank you, that’s what you’d think” the President said
It’s clear that he sees himself as a great savior of the American people, a great liberator. This is delusional yet explains his sympathy with Latin America’s dictatorial regimes. However, as an American president and apparently a savvy politician, dissing 24% of the population doesn’t seem too bright. So long as it’s less than 50%, I suppose…

If the average American’s tax burden has gone down under Obama, it’s because people have less taxable income from their investments, and with sky-high unemployment under Obama, people have fewer jobs, and thus lower aggregate taxable wages and salaries.
We’re supposed to be thankful for that?
Obama’s words could lead people to think that he’s cut tax rates, but he hasn’t; rather, with the new taxes under the Obamacare bill and with the Bush tax cuts soon to expire, they will be going up. (A temporary reduction in estate taxes was put into law before Obama.)

Chris E,
I can’t believe you aren’t writing thank you notes to your legislator!
Even if it were true that tax rates had gone down in the very short term, there’s no way to finance the enormous and expanding public debt without a big raise, such as a VAT tax.

Did my taxes really go down? Thanks for the memo–I hadn’t noticed.

Even if taxes have gone down by some infinitesimally small % ($10 / month), whatever paltry benefit this would have provided has been completely destroyed by the economic destruction wrought on the economy by every single other policy enacted by this buffoonish president and congress.
If the single act had been to drop taxes by 0.5% for 60% of families, fine. But when you ratchet up spending to unheard of levels, nationalize entire industries, expand the # of people on gov’t payroll and gov’t dole, double the monetary base of the nation byway of the printing press, and threaten to tax energy AND institute a national sales tax…
it’s stunningly off pitch to suggest that the people clamoring over out of control government should be instead thanking you.

Just goes to show how totally out of touch Mr. Obama has become with the regular folks he claimed to have wanted to change. As for this proposed VAT, I’m surprised no one from the Obama camp has suggested that the 47% or so people who do not have to pay taxes should be exempt.
