Administration Sings its Own Praises, Again

By Rick Brownell

I know beach reading season is over, but you simply must check out the latest work of fiction put out by the White House.

The Council of Economic Advisers released a report yesterday claiming that the $787 stimulus package has saved or added 1 million jobs to the economy since February. They also claim they are on track to save the 3.5 million jobs that Obama promised earlier this year.

Of course they are. Did you ever for a moment think that they were going to state that they would miss this goal? The idea of tracking “jobs saved or created” requires a level of creative math that would make Bernie Madoff blush. It’s an arbitrary standard that the Obamanauts will be able to fulfill no matter what really happens to the economy.

It is the political equivalent of the old Johnny Carson character Carnac the Magnificent – you get the answer, then make up the question. It seems to be the only way this administration can meet its goals.

It's the end of the post, now what?

The jobs saved or created count always made me chuckle. There’s no real way of proving or disproving how many jobs were saved, so they can say whatever they want.

Perhaps Bush should have used the same tactic for the benefit of the war in Iraq, or the war on terror in general.

People saved this month because Saddam Hussein is no longer in power: 12,892

People saved this month because terror attacks on U.S. soil didn’t happen: 382

How do I know these numbers? The same way the Obama Administration knows how many jobs are saved, I make things up.
