President Obama: Liberalism 101: Health Care Reform
ByPresident Obama made it crystal clear tonight that he and the Democratic Party will pass a health care bill at any cost. It doesn’t matter if Republicans craft the bill or not. It may not even matter if Blue Dog Democrats help craft bill. Health Care will be passed. It is a “moral obligation.” It is to honor Ted Kennedy. Nothing will stop them now. They are committed.
During the month of August, townhalls were held throughout the country where many Americans, especially conservatives and moderates, showed skepticism toward the bill released by the House before Congress went into recess. Seniors were nervous about provisions regarding end of life care and average Americans saw the possibility that the creation of a public option would deter companies from providing health insurance for their employees. They saw that a Democratic “dream” of providing health insurance for every American may cause the quality of their health care to suffer. Washington bureaucrats would control and dictate the coverage they would receive, not private insurers and medical doctors. The American people were nervous of the President’s intentions and wanted to hear an attempt for bi-partisan health care reform .
Unfortunately, what they got was a rallying cry from President Obama to pass Health Care Reform at any cost. It was a war speech. Similar to what President Bush gave after 9/11, which layed out our mission to defeat terrorism around the world. President Bush attempted to rally Americans to a cause greater then themselves, just as President Obama did tonight. You think I’m crazy? Well Salon’s Joan Walsh on MSNBC tonight compared Obama’s speech tonight to very same Bush speech back in 2001.
As conservatives, we love America and are in favor of doing whatever is necessary to defend her from all who look to bring evil to her shores. We see terrorism as an evil that must be defeated on moral grounds. We believe it needs to be defeated because it restricts us from living in freedom and peace. This is why President Bush strongly created a doctrine that stated that we would go after any country that harbored terrorists and gave them a safe haven to operate. President Obama and the Democrats enemy tonight was something that they consider evil. Big business. They believe that insurance companies are big, bad corporations that want to restrict Americans of care, earn “insane profits”, and deny coverage to patients that they see as “unhealthy.”
It was a compelling plea made by the president in order to get passed what Democrats have been seeking to accomplish since the days of the New Deal, which is government-run health care. Conservatives essentially believe that the role of government is protect Americans from forces that prevent citizens from enjoying liberty and freedom. By protecting their liberty & freedom, conservatives believe that individuals have equal opportunity to make their own choices for what is best for them and their families. Liberals have a different idea of government. They believe that liberty & freedom can only be enjoyed by every American receives “necessary” services. This ideology has caused such entitlement programs as social security, medicare, medicaid, food stamps, and now perhaps nationalized health care.
President Obama’s speech tonight was an assault on high achievers in American society, whether that be the wealthiest Americans or big corporations. He and Democrats see achievement as something that is morally wrong and unjust. They don’t see the greatness in our current health care system and how it saves so many lives through groundbreaking procedures that are the envy of the world. They only sees its inability to provide equal care for everyone. Therefore, it must be fundamentally changed in the eyes of liberals
President Obama tried his best to hoodwink the American people tonight to accept his vision for health care reform, but what he did a better job of was defining liberalism. He gave the best explanation of liberalism I have ever heard in a presidential address. Just read below:
You see, our predecessors understood that government could not, and should not, solve every problem. They understood that there are instances when the gains in security from government action are not worth the added constraints on our freedom. But they also understood that the danger of too much government is matched by the perils of too little; that without the leavening hand of wise policy, markets can crash, monopolies can stifle competition, and the vulnerable can be exploited. And they knew that when any government measure, no matter how carefully crafted or beneficial, is subject to scorn; when any efforts to help people in need are attacked as un-American; when facts and reason are thrown overboard and only timidity passes for wisdom, and we can no longer even engage in a civil conversation with each other over the things that truly matter – that at that point we don’t merely lose our capacity to solve big challenges. We lose something essential about ourselves.
This very passage is at the center of the Obama presidency and modern Democratic Party. It goes to very core of what they believe is best for America and its people. They believe they are ones to solves big challenges, not the private sector. Liberals believe in providing a choice for you, so you don’t have have to be responsible for your own choices. However, choosing from and contributing to a marketplace of goods and services is what makes us free. It is what creates entrepreneurship, ingenuity, and progress. Liberalism creates a fear in people that the world is too compicated for them to comprehend. That we need to follow its guiding hand rather than our own reasoning to make decisions regarding what is best for us. It provides certainty to our lives, rather then experimentation. It gives us security and stability, and restricts creativity and flexibility. It makes us subjects, rather rulers. It makes us become followers and not leaders.
President Obama tonight told us that we should just stop our doubting and just let him take control of the wheel. His version of Health Care Reform is what is best for our country and we will thank him for it later. We should trust him and government to do what is right. We need to have faith in him to lead us to the promised land. He is our “messiah.” Yes, we can. Yes, we will. Yes, we must. Yes, or else. Yes, or we take or chances. Yes, or we face peril.
STOP FEAR-MONGERING. We won’t buy it anymore. Mr. President please lead us and don’t try to bully us. There is a difference
