California – the Laboratory of Liberalism

In this article Will explains how California’s self-inflicted budget crisis is killing the state – crippling taxes, a fleeing population, and a dying private sector. (Sound familiar, New Yorkers?) An excerpt:
The state’s crisis has been caused by “moderation,” understood as splitting the difference between extreme liberalism and hyperliberalism, a “reasonableness” that merely moderates the speed at which the ever-expanding public sector suffocates the private sector.
If California is truly the incubator of political and social ideas for the rest of the country, then we only have to look at the Golden State to see what is in store for America in the coming years. It’s not a pretty sight.
