NEW YORK YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB ISSUES STATEMENT ON KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND
New York, NY – The New York Young Republican Club, Inc. (NYYRC) issued the following statement this afternoon regarding the appointment of Kirsten Gillibrand to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate:
Lynn Krogh, president, NYYRC, stated, “Though we are relieved that Governor Paterson has at least chosen someone who has been elected to a public office, we are disappointed that he has not chosen someone with greater experience. New York is a large state, and our new Senator will have to balance the needs of the long-term unemployment upstate with reverberating impact of the Wall Street implosion downstate, and we do not believe that Kirsten Gillibrand is up to this challenge. That being said, we are encouraged that Ms. Gillibrand has not strictly adhered to liberal dogma and hope that she will rise to the challenge of delivering what will be best for the people of New York.”
The New York Young Republican Club, Inc., is a not-for-profit political organization that exists to bring Republicans aged 18-40 together to discuss the Republican Party platform and aid the Republican Party in the education of the public about the Republican agenda and the promotion of Republican candidates for office. Experienced or not, she voted against the bailout.

I have to respond to the NYYRC Statement on Kirsten Gillibrand. We attack Gillibrand for being inexperienced, but since when does a Senator need more experience than being in Congress? Hundreds of Senators have come right from Congress. I know that Gillibrand has only been in Congress since 2006, but the Senate is not the White House.
Since I can’t expect our unelected Governor to appoint a Republican, I have to be happy with a conservative “Blue Dog” Democrat. As I’ve said, she voted against the bailout, she has a 100% rating from the NRA, and she is the best we can hope for from a Democrat. I will take the conservative Gillibrand over the experienced liberals any day.
Gillibrand is 41 years old, a U.S. citizen all her life, and a NY resident (U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 3). She is also conservative. Who would be a better Democrat for our unelected Governor to choose?

Since when did we start settling for “conservative” Democrats?
I’m sorry, I’m a Republican. Are you saying I should be jumping up and down b/c Patterson picked a nobody Pro-Gun Dem over a Liberal one? With all due respect folks, she’s a Democrat through and through. Make no mistake about it, she will yield to the Pelosi-types once sworn in, you wait and see.
She is not qualified. Period. Being in Congress for 2 years does NOT make you qualified, especially when you’ve done absolutely NOTHING for the 20th CD.
She’s gotten away with voting against the bailout and such b/c she’s a fundraiser, comes from $$ and will continue to do so. Pelosi doesn’t want to cut off that spigot.
Our job is to hold Democrats feet to the fire, every step of the way. I will continue to do that to all Dems, including David Patterson, who is going down in History as a Governor who cannot, for the life of him, make a decision (at least in a timely manner, and when he does it’s about taxing the Young Professionals in NYS.)
For Gillibrand, Congress has always been a stepping stone into something more… don’t forget that.

Lynn, you make a very good argument. I am going to stop jumping up and down for Gillibrand just because of her conservative credentials. We still have to fight the Democrats tooth and nail.
