Is he living in the same State I am?

By nvertucci

Just like that the Eliot Spitzer era has officially begun. Spitzer trying to continue to make New Yorkers believe the world is crumbling down around them, stated during his speech that “New York has slept through much of the past decade while the rest of the world has passed us by” under Governor Pataki. Really?

If that was true somebody forgot to tell the New York real-estate market that has seen prices skyrocket over the last decade. Even homes in Suffolk County that were barely $100K ten years ago now sell for over a half a million.

Somebody also forgot to tell the New York job market that has unemployment under 5%, the rate considered to be full employment in society.

Everyday I look around and see a Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, etc. that is better today then ten years ago. I see a State and its current statistics that are gong to make it extremely hard for Eliot Spitzer to improve upon. What’s he going to do take unemployment to unprecedented levels of 3% or crime down another 47%? Good luck!

The only one in New York that has been sleeping during the last decade is Eliot Spitzer and those that wanted to believe that Pataki was a bad Governor.

You should ask why everyone hates Pataki now. There are reasons. He was a useless Governor.

CT MA NJ have better education systems, healthcare affordability, equal rights, among many other things.

Upstate is dying an Pataki is the worst Governor ever.

Yeah expensive housing is a great accomplishment.

You’re right. Those charter schools have been a disaster. I guess a teachers union that resembles the Roman Empire and parents who don’t give a crap about their kids school work have nothing to do with the plight of the education system. Funny how the private schools with no union have no problem teaching and graduating kids from the same neighborhoods.

To the person who made the housing comment. So tell me, do you think it’s better to have people’s homes appreciate or not? There are plenty of places for people to live at all income levels in this State. If you can’t afford a neighborhood or you live in one with no jobs, move!

It’s not a revolutionary idea. People have been doing it for centuries. My ancestors moved from another part of the world to come to America to find a job and better place to live. Our colonial ancestors picked up and traveled two thousand miles across the country in wagons with no highways or U-Hauls to look for a better place live.

Today one of the easiest things to do is pickup and move. We have dozens of people in the club that came from other parts of the country to the big city of New York to find a job and place to live.

Nick, do you know what New York State looks like above 145th Street? I won’t put the entire blame on the Governor, since he has to work with Sen Bruno and Speaker Silver as well, but he does hold most of the blame for the shambles New York State is in.

As for 9:41 PM Anon, housing is expensive because liberals (both on the Democrat and Republican side) won’t let go of the arcane Rent Regulation Laws. If we abolish rent control and rent stabilization, lower the real estate tax assessments for multiple dwellings, reform workers comp and the wicks laws and remove onerous impedements for construction, we could lower housing costs for renters.

Daniel,

The problem I have is when people use words like “shambles” to describe New York. The State is not in shambles. New Orleans, post Katrina, was in shambles.
