Should I be excited?
BySo Rudy announced he was going to throw his hat in the ring. Now I’m sure he thinks he has a chance to get the Republican nod, which probably came from the reception he got from his 2006 election tour of the country.
I don’t think he will ever be nominated or could even win. Does anyone really think this country is going to elect an Italian Catholic from New York? That’s pretty funny.
Anyway as much as I love the guy, I’m still upset at him for bailing on the Republican Party in New York back in 2000. I know he was ill but that didn’t stop him from going into the private sector. Just think if he stayed in the Senate race, Hillary might be nothing more then the former Presidents wife and New York would still have a Republican in a State wide seat

I wouldn’t be so hard on the guy, Nick. 2000 was a whole Senate term ago, and Giuliani has more than made up for not running against Hillary by working hard for GOP candidates in 2004 and 2006.
As far as him not being elected president…well, by this point I’ve learned to never say never when it comes to politics.
In 1959, no one ever believed that an Irish Catholic from Massachusetts with only one Senate term under his belt could ever be elected president.
Shoot, in 1993, no one believed that Giuliani, or anyone else for that matter, could turn New York City around either.

As a life-long New Yorker, I loved what Rudy did for this town, and I’m not even talking about the great work he did after 9/11. But don’t forget that, on 9/10, he was on the verge of being laughed out of town. His infidelity, his impotence, his combover, his messy divorce. None of that diminishes my admiration for the man and his abilities, but that’s only because I saw first hand what kind of leader he could be. I lived in a city he helped tame and I’m better for it. But there’s no way the heartland of this country – Republican or Democrat – will pull the lever for a guy who dressed in drag. I know it was for a press event and it was all in good fun, but the rest of the country won’t care about that. They’ll see the pictures of him dressed like Marilyn Monroe and it’ll be all over. I think his style would make him an ideal governor, but he hates Albany. (I can’t blame him.) Rudy’s a great man, but he doesn’t work well and play with others, so his appeal to the party as a whole will be very limited. Plus, he’s a New Yorker, which only gives the rest of the country a reason to hate him all the more. Climb aboard the Romney Bus in ’08. It’s gonna be a good ride.
