Actually, the Attack on Google is Part of the Master Plan

I commented on this earlier this month, and I am of the same mind now as I was then.

It is necessary for people to call out companies like Google each and every time they make a decision that placates the communist government in China. Irrespective of what their corporate responsibilities are in that country, it must be consistently and repeatedly pointed out what they are doing.

You say baby steps are what will bring greater freedom to the Chinese people, and I agree with you. However, those baby steps will not be made without people protesting against Google’s actions that favor the Chinese government. They are a constant reminder that no one should be satisfied with or settle for the anti-democratic situation that currently exists there. Without these protests, no one will know. And if no one knows, then nobody will care. And if no one cares, then nothing will change.

I just find it interesting that Google is willing to placate the Chinese communist government by censoring information in order to make money, yet they won’t cooperate with our government on releasing information regarding porn sites and sexual predators on the very basis of free speech/expression/privacy/whatever.So is the definition of Freedom limited to whatever lies within the boundaries set by one’s ruling government? Then that means in the US, anything goes because it’s in the Constitution (forget that nonsense about God-given rights), but in China it means something else based upon whatever Little Red Book they use? Is this the “Ignorance is Bliss” rule? And what, you don’t think the Chinese government isn’t requiring Google report all sorts of privacy-violating user information to it? I guess ignorance really is bliss when you can turn a blind eye while the other eye looks through rose-colored glass.

Pretty much. It’s kind of like how the New York Times accuses Bush of breaking the law with the terrorist surveillance program, but it’s okay for the Times to break the law by obtaining and reporting on national security documents in order to boost the sales of one of their hacks’ latest anti-Bush screeds.
